Coordinator Uppsala universitet - Institutionen för Materialvetenskap
Funding from Vinnova SEK 36 000 000
Project duration January 2025 - December 2029
Status Ongoing
Venture Competence centre
Call Competence center 2020 - Phase 2 - year 2025-2029

Purpose and goal

The AM4Life Competence Centre aims to significantly advance additive manufacturing (AM) for the life sciences. The focus is on developing bioactive materials and devices through AM to improve patient quality of life and create sustainable healthcare solutions. Key areas include bioactive systems, bioprinting, and biomaterial development, with an emphasis on AI, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration to drive innovation and commercialization.

Expected effects and result

AM4Life, running from 2020-2029, aims to produce a total of 120 scientific papers, 25 patent applications, and 55 new products/processes. We will enhance patient-specific treatments, create new business cases, and improve education programs. We also expect to generate printable biodegradable implants, advanced tumor models, and personalized medications, benefiting both industry and academia through innovation, collaboration, and knowledge transfer.

Planned approach and implementation

AM4Life phase 2 (2025-2029) is structured into six work packages focusing on management, training, biomaterial development, bioactive systems, bioprinting, and dissemination and exploitation. Led by Uppsala University, it involves 12 academic partners, 2 public organizations and 23 industrial partners. Key activities include training future experts through seminars, courses, and cooperative research projects. The project emphasizes sustainability and incorporation of artificial intelligence.
