Important results from the project
Our three ambitions: 1: Knowledge transfer to VINNOVA and the Swedish Defence. Done. 2: Get help from VINNOVA to run two NATO Exploratory Teams (SAS-ET-GC, SAS-ET-GD) to make these a success. Failed, no support. 3: Avoid a wave of bankruptcies among Swedish SMEs. The government´s ambition to promote SMEs to go for civilian-military dual-use can be harmful as there is no realistic path towards a business deal with the defence. The impossibility of commercial success may lead to their doom.
Expected long term effects
In response to the dire geopolitical development, it has become imperative to develop the resilience and ability of the Swedish society and defence. The ability to innovate and the pace of innovation is key in a prolonged conflict, as demonstrated by the war in Ukraine. However, as it is virtually impossible today for Swedish SMEs to close business deals with the defence, encouraging them to move in this direction may lead to a wave of bankruptcies. We have suggested ways to avoid this.
Approach and implementation
This project has been based on dialogues with old and new networks. Our existing dual-use projects and military networks have been the base for the dialogues. For the new networks we express our gratitude to Ideon.
