Purpose and goal

Stockholm´s parklekar (staffed playgrounds with accessible indoor area) is an important link in the chain of meaningful leisure activities for children and young people in Stockholm. They offer a safe place with opportunities for play, movement and community. However, a fragmented organization has made it hard to develop the activity in the right direction. The project´s objective is to identify obstacles and opportunities, in aim to strengthen meaningful leisure for children and young people.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in proposals for actions and a new model for collaboration within the city, which will contribute to driving the development of the city´s "parklekar" in the right direction and at a faster pace than today. The result will have effects for the city´s children and young people, who will be offered meaningful leisure activities and more attractive play environments.

Planned approach and implementation

The project begins with a survey of the organization of parklekar with identification of obstacles and opportunities for development. A system analysis will clarify how different parts are interconnected and what gaps exist between expected objective and what the real situation looks like today. The project will also result in a scientific literature study that provides a picture of what research is connected to children´s outdoor environments and their governance.
