Purpose and goal
The project aims to enable high-throughput production of uniform 3D cell culture models using microfluidic technology. By improving reproducibility and culture size control, it supports more efficient drug development and biomedical research.
Expected effects and result
MASS-3D will deliver a validated platform for scalable production of uniform 3D cell cultures. It will demonstrate function and reproducibility using stabilised cell lines and progress to more complex models, including production of donor-derived pancreatic organoids, with the goal of improving reliability in drug screening and enabling broader industrial adoption.
Planned approach and implementation
The project will follow an iterative product development strategy, combining design, testing, and biological validation to establish reliable production of 3D cell cultures using microfluidic technology. Initial work will focus on stabilised cell lines evaluating reproducibility and performance, followed by progression to multi-cellular and advanced organoid models. Activities include design & engineering optimisation, biological validation, and preparation for industrial use and market adoption.
