The need for sustainable use and secure supply of raw materials is increasing in Europe and the rest of the world.

New EU-initiative will secure the supply of raw materials

Long-term coordination of research, innovation and funding across national borders is needed to meet future challanges while managing the risks of vulnerable supply chains and geopolitical uncertainty.

Raw Materials Partnership for the Green and Digital Transition (RAMP) is, through its global design, a direct response to the EU's objective to ensure a safe and sustainable supply of critical raw materials such as metals and minerals in the European Critical Raw Materials Act regulation (CRMA).

The collaboration involves 56 partner organizations from 34 countries and regions. Within the partnership, RAMP plans at least seven international calls for proposals.

Kick-off to building collaborations

RAMP has now published advance information for the first international call for proposals within the new partnership. In connection with this, the scope of the call is also announced, with a budget of at least 29 million euros.

In total, the partnership will have a budget of around €350 million, of which the EU will contribute €90 million. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous ERA-MIN partnership.

The advance information also contains preliminary information about:

  • themes and scope
  • schedule and application process
  • participating countries and financiers
  • rules for consortia and applications

The purpose of publishing the information early is to give companies, researchers and other actors the opportunity to start identifying international partners and developing project ideas ahead of the official the call for proposals. The call for proposals is planned to open in June 2026.

The call for proposals covers the entire raw material value chain

The call for proposals is designed with six themes that together will cover the entire raw materials value chain. Each proposal should be submitted under the theme that best corresponds to the project's main objective and expected impact.

The themes include sustainable supply of raw materials from primary and secondary sources, more efficient use of raw materials in design and production, and solutions that strengthen circularity.

The call for proposals also includes projects that will make the circular economy more feasible in practice by addressing regulatory, economic and social barriers. This could include new methods for analysis, data management and increased transparency in value chains.

Sweden coordinates the partnership

Sweden, through Vinnova, has been given the role of coordinator for the partnership. This means that Sweden's Innovation Agency has a team of employees who work to coordinate the partnership on a daily basis and who are the hub of the partnership's operational work. Vinnova is RAMP's main contact with the European Commission and coordinates the work with other countries involved.

This is how you get an overview

In conjunction with this, RAMP is also launching its first dedicated communication channels. The partnership now has a website, a newsletter and an official LinkedIn page where information, updates and upcoming activities will be published on an ongoing basis.
