Christmas greeting from Darja Isaksson, Vinnova
Christmas greeting from Darja Isaksson, Vinnova
Published: 14 December 2021
This year, 2021, has been a most unusual and eventful year. The consequences of the pandemic have affected us all, in different ways, and the conditions for in-novation have been equally affected. These are the words of Darja Isaksson, CEO of Vinnova, as we are nearing the end of the year.

I, along many others, have been struck by how the pandemic has highlighted the importance of investing in research and innovation for our society as a whole. We have been reminded that large-scale change is actually possible. Rarely has it been more clear that we live in a world where geopolitics, needs for change and new technologies are redrawing the balance of power and value chains throughout the world.
These are important insights to act on right now, and we need to see the possibilities that lie within. We cannot negotiate with the planet. We need to take on the climate challenge and at the same time strengthen both social and economic sustainability.
The urgency, combined with the opportunities that will open in the transition; These were my main messages at the COP 26 climate conference in Glasgow in November. We need to prioritize the future.
Swedish companies impress with their ability to innovate and their leadership in the transition. We know that our ability to work together is key. By utilizing our strengths in these two critical areas, in the power of innovation and the ability to collaborate, companies, researchers, regions, municipalities and the civil society can bring about the transition to a sustainable society. As an authority in Swedish innovation, it is our task to see opportunities and realize the solutions of the future together with you.
During this year, we have had the opportunity to do just that. Major investments in electric transports, in Reel and E-charge, will bring means to reduce climate emissions. Projects that investigate sustainable everyday foods of the future provide conditions for new ideas to find a place and grow into competitive innovations in an area with major impact on both climate, environment and health. The establishment of an innovation hub for vaccine development in Matfors outside Sundsvall strengthens Sweden's position in Europe and in the world. These are just a few examples of when we are at our best, approaching challenges together.
With those words, I thank you for your good cooperation this year and wish you a happy holiday with hopes that you can recharge your batteries properly. We need you as we continue to open up to innovation that makes a difference next year.
Thanks!
