Project duration April 2016 - September 2016
Status Completed
Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The overall objective with Water-in-a-Box is to in a sustainable way, provide clean, de-salted, and germ-free water to areas of need in the world. The solution is a container with a patented water desalination equipment that easily can be assembled and transported, and with the help of solar energy, desalinate and clean sea water, for humanitarian needs.

Expected results and effects

The main goals in the project during UDI step 1 has been to identify a business concept and identify solutions for a mobile, flexible, solar-powered water desalination concept for a Water-in-a-Box. A business concept has been analyzed and identified, connected to functional sales of water. It is possible to integrate the patented invention MDD in a container and power it with solar energy and associated battery solution. Several areas have been identified for further development which needs to be tested and verified in practical tests.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has in step 1 made a market analysis and, based on this analysis identified a business concept for Water-in-a-Box. Different concept studies have evaluated and identified the necessary technical solutions for a mobile, flexible, solar-powered production concept. The project has also in step 1 established important partnership between both companies and university, necessary to develop the concept into a successful innovation in Sweden.
