Reference number
Coordinator VIKTORIA SWEDISH ICT AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration September 2013 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

VIPP aims to develop knowledge of open innovation for digital innovation contests with the objective to design guidelines to ensure that the process after the competition can be understood, managed and controlled. In this pre-study, the project has developed basic knowledge about innovation processes and barriers and has established a plan for the main project (VIPP+) in cooperation with the involved partners.

Results and expected effects

The results of this pre-study is a framework consisting of 20 innovation barriers. The expected impact of this work is an interest from our partners to continue the project as well as a contribution to the research. The framework can improve the post contest process as more innovations become products. This through the design of models and methodologies for innovation contests. The work also raises issues around how innovation competitions contribute to the establishment of innovation systems based on new open platforms, an indirect effect that can have significant long-term benefit.

Approach and implementation

The pre-study was organized in five work packages. The project has conducted a literature study, more than 40 interviews with, among others, partners and particpant surveys. Knowledge transfer between partners has been conducted and a paper to a leading conference has been written. VIPP+ is well positioned to extend the framework and develop models and methodology for how open innovation should be organized through competitions and how post contest process can be managed to achieve the desired effects, the new digital services and the emergence of new innovation systems.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
