Important results from the project
A total of 120 verification activities were carried out in 55 projects, 33 were deeptech. 40% of the projects had a woman as the main contact (27% for deeptech). 39 projects are new, while 14 projects are follow-ups. One project originated from research at HDa, one at HiG. Six projects were run by students. The outcome during this period has so far resulted in 11 attractive innovation projects, which means that they have managed to attract, for example, users, customers, investors or licensees.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to have several long-term effects that strengthen both the work of the innovation offices and Sweden´s competitiveness. VFT enables early verification and risk minimization so that promising ideas can be quickly intensified while less promising project are completed on time. Since 2012, UU Innvoation has granted VFT funds to more than 320 ideas, where at least 140 of the ideas have resulted in the formation of a company, of which around 110 are still active today.
Approach and implementation
Decisions on VFT activities up to 300 000 SEK were made by a committee with representatives from UU Innovation, UU Invest AB and the business incubator Uppsala Innovation Centre. For particularly verification-intensive deeptech projects, an opportunity for additional funding up to a total of 550 000SEK has been offered. A national competence panel with advisors with domain-specific competence from the country´s innovation offices was then assembled for assessment and decision for granting.
