Verification for Growth at the University of Gothenburg

Purpose and goal

In the project, there have been nearly 100 verification activities in the 33 validation projects funded. Verification projects have been based on research-generated knowledge from the University of Gothenburg and students project based on the knowledge that they have acquired through their education at university. Verification funds have been used to verify the commercial and technological potential. The project has contributed to the long-term effective of commercialization of research and strengthen the university´s ability to work with utilization.

Results and expected effects

GU Holding´s objective was to verify about 20 projects in 2013. The outcome was about 100 verification activities in 33 verification projects. The University´s ability to effectively commercialize research has been strengthened, at least in the early stages of commercial development. The management of innovative projects have been greatly improved in terms of work processes between Innovation office at GU and GU Holding. The interest from commercial operators have increased during the period, both from industry and from early stage venture capital.

Approach and implementation

Implementation has gone according to plan and has been a collaboration between innovation office at GU and GU Holding. The objective of each project was to identify the main key factors and risks in order to suggest which activities should be taken to verify the answers and actions for these. The process has been divided into three parts: dialogue, implementation and evaluation phase. Persons involved have been primarily innovation advisors from Innovation Office at GU and business developers at GU Holding and consultants.
