Call Scaling up for a sustainable battery value chain

Purpose and goal

This project outlines a scale-up roadmap for Granode Materials’ silicon anode, evolving from a Swedish innovation testbed to a demonstration plant as a key industrial platform. It strengthens material resilience, drives energy efficiency, and enables low-CO₂ production. Through four integrated workstreams across the battery value chain, project enhances supply chain security and sustainability, supporting Sweden and Europe’s energy transition.

Expected effects and result

Granode’s demonstration plant enables commercialization of a European process for silicon-composite anodes, delivering advanced anode supply with higher energy density and efficient cost. It supports e-mobility by enabling longer EV range and faster charging. Finally replacing graphite with silicon, the project strengthens supply chain resilience and reduces dependence on imported critical raw materials.

Planned approach and implementation

Granode Materials aims to deliver disruptive technologies that strengthen Sweden’s battery industry and global competitiveness. The scale-up plan includes a modular pilot facility in Uppsala, bridging the gap from lab to factory by converting kilogram batches into qualified pilot lots. The project leverages expert QA teams skilled in machinery processes and bill-of-process development to ensure robust, scalable production.
