Purpose and goal
The project aim was to develop methods and tools to certify multimodal transportation performance of buildings and urban environments, thereby reduce the need to drive car. We analyzed and combined different trip generation models, environmental certification systems and accessibility indexes. We developed and tested a new hybrid method based on urban form and accessibility factors. The method provides reasonable results and it can be used to inform residents, developers, authorities, etc. about the integration of the urban form with walking, cycling and public transportation.
Expected results and effects
Information about the Multimodal Transportation Performance Certificate (MTPC) has spread through participation at conferences, reference group meetings and direct communication with Riksbyggen, municipalities and authorities. The method will be used by Riksbyggen to analyze car dependence in new developments and negotiate parking standards with municipalities. In addition, we also want to develop the method and tool as a consultancy service and web page in the future. Each building can get a MTPC and EPC (Energy Performance Certificate).
Planned approach and implementation
The MTPC project has been carried out in cooperation with Riksbyggen and the municipalities of Jönköping and Haninge. We have organized reference group meetings and coordination meetings at KTH, Riksbyggen´s headquarters and in Jönköping and Haninge municipalities to present results and get comments. Through the collaboration, we got insight into practical problems and new research needs. We also informed developers, municipalities and public authorities about the latest research on urban form and travel. It was a valuable cooperation for academics and practitioners.
