Important results from the project
Documentation in kindergarten used to be done by having the teacher making photos using a digital camera or mobile phone. Then he/she went to a computer in a separate room to write documentation in Word and print on paper. This took a lot of time, time that should rather be spent with the children. The goal of this project was to evaluate a prototype electronic tool to automate this process. The aim was to develop a product that can be sold to and used by kindergartens. The tool was evaluated and was much appreciated by both teachers, director and parents.
Expected long term effects
The result of the evaluation shows that teachers want a simple tool that is easy and convenient to use, instead of a product that has a lot of features but are too complicated. We wanted to show that this tool could save four hours of work per week, per department. This we could not show by exact figures, but the pre-school staff are positive about both the tool and the new approach, and they feel that they are saving time with the tool, as opposed to doing the same thing by hand. We were able to take all comments into the next step of developing the finished tool.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out by first developing a static prototype of the tool. This was evaluated by teachers and preschool director to get feedback early. Then we completed a working prototype, which could carry all the most important functionality. This was evaluated during the ongoing activities together with the children. We received a lot of valuable input thanks to these practical tests. All comments were compiled and processed with the teachers and preschool director. Then commenced development of the finished product.
