Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The testbed has substantially fulfilled its purpose of promoting development and innovation concerning CNC, crystalline nanocellulose, a bio-based high-tech material. The goal of establishing a CNC-production for application development on a larger scale is partly fulfilled, even though the pilot plant due to unforeseen complicated technical problems, has not yet reached the desired volumes. Methods and networks for continued application development are established and new collaborations is ongoing or being initiated.

Expected results and effects

The project has resulted in new knowledge, research results and exchanges of experience regarding application development in the CNC area. It has also provided lessons regarding difficulties and opportunities with upscaling from both a technical and business perspective. Establishment of the test bed and its network enables a platform for continued work that is in full swing. The test bed will together with other test and demo resources in the region contribute to the transition to a bioeconomy.

Planned approach and implementation

Parts of the project have been delayed due to time-consuming technical problems, but the problems have also provided lessons regarding risks and opportunities with scaling up from both a technical and business perspective. The arrangement with separate pilot studies for application development and that the parties took costs outside the project to enable materials for research while the technical problems with the pilot were investigated was important for the project implementation.
