Important results from the project
The project developed methods for planning and building environments for everyone. Researchers and municipal employees worked together to identify and test solutions for equity and equality in the built environment. The main result is a YouTube training course "Planning and building nonclusively" with eight films about design principles, supporting qualities & hindering thought patterns. The project published over 30 scientific papers and concluded with a conference in Gothenburg, October 2025.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to create lasting change by providing municipalities with knowledge and support in implementing nonclusive design principles in their planning. The YouTube training will become a permanent resource for training planners and decision-makers. The scientific publications contribute to the knowledge base in the field. Overall, the project is expected to lead to built environments that better meet human variation and are not based on "us and them" thinking.
Approach and implementation
The project was based on a successful set-up with a joint workshop series for researchers and municipal representatives, the "heartbeat" of the project. Through city walks, design workshops, etc., patterns and solutions for equality in the built environment were identified and tested. The number of participants varied. The project followed the original schedule, the results were analysed and published scientifically and developed into practical tools based on the needs of the municipalities.
