Important results from the project
The original aim was to investigate the possibilities of using digital, operational data for business development. During implementation, the purpose was broadened to generally include questions about the consequences of digitalization for the earthmoving industry. The project has been instrumental in initiating a debate on the digitalization of the industry. The project has increased the awareness of the potential impact of digitalization, especially regarding the necessary competence profile of the machine operators in the future and its implications for education.
Expected long term effects
o The industry association has gained increased insights into how the earthmoving contractors´ business conditions and operations might change through a shift to digital technologies. o The project has produced a knowledge base regarding the industry´s competence needs. o The work has made it possible to clarify significant issues regarding future training of machine operators. o The project has produced examples of "best practices" in the industry regarding the use of digital technologies to increase efficiency and business development.
Approach and implementation
The project has primarily been carried out by researchers at KTH. A sub-study has been carried out by SAM Samarbetande konsulter. The project had a reference group with leading representatives of its stakeholders, which met at regular intervals and discussed findings and the focus of the project work.
