Purpose and goal

The purpose of the preliminary study was to concretize the main project into content, participants (the industrial consortium) and organization. The objectives of the preliminary study were: 1) Implementing needs, environment and market analyzes for business, collaborative programs and designated test beds. 2) Complete a requirement specification. 3) Present the organization of the main project for the Connected building site and 4) Develop the implementation plan for the main project. All goals are met.

Expected results and effects

The main results are: 1) An established industry consortium backed by 32 Letters of Intents (60% Construction, 40% ICT) and 14 companies that want to follow in later stages. The industry consortia defined four test bed projects - connected construction sites. 2) An established international collaboration with Aalto University “The Intelligent Construction Site” project. 3) An executive organization of 6 women and 5 men. The expected effects relate to increased productivity, reduction of construction costs and climate impacts as well as a changing business logic.

Planned approach and implementation

The preliminary study has been concretized in two major workshops. The interest in the project and the willingness to participate were very large and clearly beyond expectations. In total, 103 people participated from 42 different organizations and companies in the two workshops, with a distribution of 49% construction, 41% ICT and 10% academy. The calculated self-effort for participation in workshops for defining content, analyzes and internal anchoring work exceeds 1000 tkr. This is not found in the official economical report.
