Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to investigate the pre-requisites for establishing an arena of physical test beds for nutrient recovery from sewage streams at seven Swedish sewage treatment plants. The project has specified pre-requisites, both general and specific for the participating utilities, developed an overall business model for the arena´s offer and decided that the arena´s first test bed will be established at VA SYD´s facility Ellinge wastewater treatment plant.

Expected long term effects

The main result of the project is the joint decision to focus on the establishment of a first joint reference test bed at VA SYD´s facility Ellinge wastewater treatment plant. The project group will now go ahead and apply for co-funding from Vinnova for this establishment. Therefore, a first physical test bed will hopefully be established in the near future.

Approach and implementation

The project period can be divided into three parts. During the first period of the project, pre-requisites, both general and specific, for establishing physical test beds at Swedish wastewater treatment plants were compiled. Subsequently, the focus was on developing an overall business model for an arena of test beds. Finally, the focus was on how completed work can be taken further in an implementation project, and it was decided to apply for co-funding for the establishment of a first joint test bed at one facility out of the seven participating wastewater utilities.
