Important results from the project

The project has aimed to create opportunities to proactively tackle today´s and tomorrow´s societal challenges related to waste management. The overall goal of the project has been to open up our operations for the development and testing of digital technologies and solutions under real conditions and against real needs, in order to achieve sustainable waste management and a circular economy. The project has successfully fulfilled its purpose and goals and thereby in a concrete way has been a contributing factor in the digital transformation of the waste industry.

Expected long term effects

The expected result from the project is a testbed in the form of a physical- and a virtual environment that offers attractive, efficient, accessible and safe testing opportunities. The expected effect of the project is new digital technology and new digital solutions for sustainable waste collection and a circular economy. Since both a physical and a virtual test bed were developed and a number of new digital technologies and solutions were tested in these, the project has fulfilled its purpose, and made concrete contributions to an increased digitization of the waste industry.

Approach and implementation

The project has been divided into six main activities, where each activity has been broken down into sub-activities with a timed plan for various stages and deliveries. The majority of the project work has focused on the actual test bed development and the execution of experiments. The underlying working method has largely been "design thinking" which is a creative work process based on the user´s real needs. The project has been led by the project owner, with the support of the project partner the University of Skövde. The project´s setup has been efficient and ensured successful results.
