Important results from the project

The project aims to design storytelling and presence as a method for getting to know a place, and to develop a proposal for a relational design process that can strengthen a depopulated village in the countryside. The process brings together and explores the meeting between pedagogy, participatory processes, spatial- and scenic design.

Expected long term effects

The expected long-term effects are that the relational design process will result in: Spatial spaces that create situations for learning and activity in a forest environment. That the process of developing spaces for learning in a forest environment has contributed positively to Svappavaara School, and created the opportunity to develop an outdoor pedagogy. That the project, by strengthening the school, also strengthens the village in a municipal perspective.

Approach and implementation

The project´s approach was about understanding a place through presence and conversation. Through three intensive visits, with conversations and follow-up in between, we got to know Svappavaara, and found an area to work with. We changed the schedule after our first visit because we learned which dates would be good for us to be there in order to meet as many people as possible.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
