Purpose and goal

Sweden´s participation in EU-projects in the Space area has so far been low, only 2.2%. The long term goal is to increase this to at least 4% in Horizon 2020 for the period 2013-20120. In the short term, the aims were to inform and to gather as many Swedish space players as possible, in order to discuss the challenge and to lay the foundation for inputs to future Horizon 2020 Calls. The project reached as far as one can reasonably expect in less than a year, with coordinated proposals for contents in future calls which have been presented to EC in Brussels and given to the Swedish National Space Board.

Results and expected effects

The knowledge about the possibilities within H2020 has increased among Swedish space players. More applications within the space area can be expected. The understanding of the process has also increased. The discussions have led to increased coordination among Swedish space players and to a common document with proposals for contents in future Horizon 2020 space calls. Proposals that focus on areas where Swedish space industry and/or research are/is strong. We expect that some of these proposals will be reflected in the next round of Horizon 2020 Space calls.

Approach and implementation

The project group initially all came from KTH. Subsequently it came to include a large part of Swedish space players. During a series of meetings with participants from the whole country, information about H2020 was given and strategies to increase Swedish return were discussed. Proposals for contents in new H2020 space calls were elaborated and presented to EC in Brussels. We had three informal meetings with the EC DG ENT Space group. These were very valuable and allowed us to provide a final document well-adjusted to the needs of EC. SNSB will also use this during official inputs to EC.
