| Call | Visions for world-leading research and innovation in strategic technology areas |
Purpose and goal
Swedish photonics is strong in research and innovation and has the potential to become a global leader in photonics-driven development for increased competitiveness, sustainability and technological renewal. The project will, in dialogue with key stakeholders, develop a joint Vision 2035 and a strategy to build a national excellence cluster focused on collaboration, strengths, needs in strategic areas such as manufacturing, quantum technologies, energy, health and defence.
Expected effects and result
The study will deliver a joint Vision 2035 and a 2026–2035 strategy with clear goals, focus areas and a governance model. The work will lay the foundation for a Swedish excellence cluster with strong national engagement and international visibility, strengthening the role of photonics as an enabling technology. Expected impacts include increased collaboration, new investments and long-term competitiveness in areas such as energy, health, quantum technologies and advanced manufacturing.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is jointly led by PhotonicSweden and RISE together with a broad network of industrial, academic and public stakeholders. The work includes mapping the national ecosystem, stakeholder dialogues and analysis of strengths and opportunities to define a common vision and strategy with proposed governance and priority areas. The results will be broadly disseminated and form the basis for the next step – the establishment of a Swedish excellence cluster in photonics.
