Important results from the project
SusFor aims at increasing the access to funding for research and innovation on ´Sustainable use of forest resources´ from Horizon 2020 through different activities. SusFor is a complement to the efforts and initiatives undertaken within the framework of the NRA. The project also promotes more synergy between actors in the forestry sector to position ´the Forest´ as an area of strength on the European scene. The platform´s purpose and objective is long-term. Considering the short time the platform has been active, the results are above expectations.
Expected long term effects
SusFor has a relatively narrow focus area, well anchored within the NRA. With a clear focus SusFor has been able to work efficiently and to easily identify ways of influencing. SusFor has been working mostly with research performers but intends to develop cooperation with industry. SusFor has identified and communicated important topics for H2020. The work has been effective and successful, but can be further developed. International cooperation should be developed in order to streamline advocacy work by communicating the same message through many different channels.
Approach and implementation
SusFor is a project owned by the Swedish University of agricultural sciences, including also the Swedish Forestry Research Institute, the Swedish forest industries federation, Umeå University and the European forest technology platform. SusFor interacts with stakeholders in forest R&I to strengthen participation in the EU programmes. SusFor promotes research areas which are important for Swedish forestry that hasn´t got enough attention in Brussels. SusFor influences the content of the work programmes and promotes Swedish participation in the Horizon 2020.
