Important results from the project
The overall objectives of the project were to: (i) enhance understanding about opportunities for smart-grid-based projects in Brazil; (ii) identify solutions and business models for implementation of smart clean-tech projects in Brazilian cities; (iii) identify a testing ground in an urban area; (iv) form a triple-helix consortium of Swedish and Brazilian stakeholders to pursue the joint business opportunities identified.
Expected long term effects
The effort resulted in three project tracks in different Brazilian capitals: (i) smart electro-mobility in Curitiba focuses on improvement of urban transport infrastructure; (ii) sustainable solutions for USP Campus focuses improvement of the functionality of campus infrastructure and shall serve as lab for demonstration, research and training; (iii) sustainable urban smart grids in Belo Horizonte explores opportunities in connection with urbanization of the northern area around the city airport. The three projects shall be continued if funds can be secured.
Approach and implementation
A number of meetings and consultations took place in the three cities targeted. A workshop and field visits were organized in Stockholm to demonstrate Swedish experiences and discuss their applicability in the Brazilian context. Three teams have been formed to continue the development of the projects following the principle of triple helix on both the Brazilian and Swedish sides. Following on team formation, the project concepts shall be further developed, funding should be identified, and a consortium be formed to implement the project.
