Important results from the project

Projektet SUPERLINES fulfilled the goals of developing and shaping future visions for Stockholm´s street network with a focus on the Central Bridge. Through scenarios, traffic analyses, design and citizen dialogue, a concrete vision of a green park boulevard was created. The project also contributed to new collaborations between the city, the Swedish Transport Administration and researchers, and developed methods for AI-supported planning and digital dialogue, spread to other projects.

Expected long term effects

SUPERLINES is expected to contribute to a new planning model for how large-scale infrastructure can be transformed into green, humane urban environments. The project strengthens the climate transition by showing how walking, cycling and public transport can be prioritized in existing traffic routes. The methodology with AI-support and tactical urban transformation is expected to influence future urban planning in Stockholm and inspire similar initiatives in other cities.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented in eight work packages according to the Speculative Design methodology: discover, explore, challenge, develop, experience and evaluate. The work included strategic analysis, traffic simulations, urban design, visualizations and digital citizen dialogue via Placetoplan. The collaboration between Spacescape, White, Kairos Future, and M4Traffic provided an integrated approach from analysis to embodied vision.
