Funding from Vinnova SEK 464 000
Project duration August 2015 - August 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to contribute to a better understanding of how to create more effective innovation systems leading towards sustainable development. The results show that research based on how tensions and imbalances can affect innovation and industrial dynamics have been discussed for a long time but increased the past decade. This research is based on the assumption that tensions are inevitable and also brings positive force for change and that the challenge is to learn to deal with these tensions, which are discussed with the help of the concept "ambidexterity".

Expected results and effects

The project aims to contribute to a better understanding of how to create more effective innovation system that leads towards sustainable development. Based on this objective, the work has resulted in three complementary outcomes focused on a qualitative analysis of research in the field, a Bibliometric analysis of research in the field as well as a review of Vinnova´s projects. Overall, the study shows that there are significant opportunities for continued research on the distribution of stress role of innovation and policies.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is based on three complementary parts which emanate from the central concepts tension, innovation, industrial dynamics, sustainability, as well as policies. The first part is a Bibliometric study based on the analysis of articles in SSCI database (Web of Science) in the period 2003-2015. The second part is a traditional literature review based on searches in databases. The third part is a review of reports published by Vinnova. In addition, the study conducted a workshop at Vinnova.
