Stress free temperature, verification

Purpose and goal

The project has verified a new method to measure stress free temperature, a parameter utterly important to prevent track buckling. The verification is done by comparing the new method with a standard method. The results are promising, though not perfect. National patent applications are filed in the largest railway countries of the world.

Results and expected effects

The ned method has been compared with a standard method in four positions. A very good relative agreement is at hand. There are some areas for improvment in order to compete with similar accuracy as standard mehtods. The method is superiour to standard methods as results are at hand continously along the track.

Approach and implementation

A calculation expert was hired at start of the project. A good work to structure all calculations was performed. Unfortunately, some problems with underlaying measurement systems was present which took time to solve. Good data was not available for the calculation expert. With good data and verification measurement from standardmethod, the project has been finalized.
