Important results from the project
The general goal of strengthening the capacity of Swedish Aid around system innovation and transformation was met.
The project created a place for learning about the latest research on systems innovation and transformations and helped establish a common framework and language for addressing issues around innovation and transformation. Participants found common interests and specific initiatives that they were previously unaware of and on which they could collaborate.
Expected long term effects
In the longer term, it can help participants and their organizations ask questions that help them reflect on and navigate change processes and how transformations are evaluated. Selected case studies provided participants with examples to identify potentially transformative “seeds” in their own systems. Participants stated that the project and connections strengthened their work. They see themselves as a network that can be activated when needed, e.g. at a learning session in February 2025.
Approach and implementation
Due to the intense period of change – which is still ongoing – within the Swedish aid system, we needed to make some changes and adjustments to the project during the course of the work, including changing the focus of the workshop to open dialogue and collaboration instead of diving deeply into the specific research questions, reducing the length of the workshop, and reducing the number of participants. We also moved the workshop forward to November to adapt to the participants´ availability.
