Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to develop a prototype for a digital service with customized compostable garments with short lifespan that can be consumed in closed circuits with print-on-demand stations. We have succeeded in developing a digital platform - an application for iOS - that supports this production process. The platform has two essential functions: 1 Material archive for BtoB, where different parties can find partners for circular business models. 2 A consumer-adapted platform for circular and transparent lifestyle consumption.

Expected results and effects

For the consumer, the platform is a mix between Amazon (product content and sales) and Vogue (attractive content) but is based on circular processes and guilt-free consumption. All products go either to purchase (via external e-commerce) or to place in the app´s own wish list. The platform also serves as a material archive and matchmaking for BtoB stakeholders who intend to develop circular processes. Machines and materials that support the digital prototype are - with the support of Vinnova - under development and will under 2019 further develop the project´s results and visions.

Planned approach and implementation

The structure with a nonlinear interaction logic and an interdisciplinary collaboration has been successful but very time- and energy consuming. As the project questions our expectations of the very definition of the word sustainability as well as being based on transparency and circular flows for consumption, obvious difficulties arise in implementation. Also by bringing a production chain into the digital world and then out again - via circular principles - requires the interaction of many different disciplines and thus exposing obvious difficulties with existing downpipes.
