Project duration August 2012 - October 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose with the project is to develop a strategic research agenda for Swedish logistics research. This will be done in cooperation between the three leading academic research nodes in Sweden, business, industry and trade associations and authorities. The time perspective is long-term and the catchwords are customer value, effectiveness, profitability, growth, competitiveness, and sustainability from a financial and environmental perspective. Based on knowledge on designing and managing large and complex systems to achieve sustainable growth and competitiveness.

Results and expected effects

The project has been completed to plan. Extensive financial and environmental sustainable performances have been identified. This potential can only be reached by developing innovative supply chains including the whole system from raw materials to final customers. Outcomes are defined in terms of profitable and sustainable growth as well as short term and long term to-do-lists with activities on innovative development in logistics. Reaching the targets requires improved skills and competences in industry to design, manage and control large and complex logistics systems.

Approach and implementation

The project has a steering committee representing important companies and organisations. A broad support is achieved from a reference group with more than 50 people from industry, trade and society, which have participated on working seminars and engaged in providing feed back in the writing process. Specific trends effecting logistics development in the future have been the base for discussions on primary logistics challenges for the future, short term and long term. This has been the foundation for defining knowledge needs to face the challenges and to reach the targeted outcomes.
