Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to start open up the market for a new type of energy storage, "thermal storage". At present, many people find it difficult to understand the products as it lies between both laws and regulations for electricity and heat. During the project, the project partners have begun work towards a standard of thermal energy storage. This is done by, for example, mapping out actors, discussing with decision makers, committee work and a first draft of a Workshop Agreement. In addition, a number of “next steps” have been identified to take the work further
Expected long term effects
A number of goals were set for the project, two of which were: At an international and European level, work is underway to connect heat and electricity production also called "sector-coupling" or "co-generation". Today, development is relatively different from one another, and with the work of connecting the sectors, standards and a common view on thermal energy storage are required. During the project it was identified that a Workshop Agreement (WA) is a good first tool to start working with. SaltX with SIS help has compiled a first draft that can now be continued in committee work.
Approach and implementation
In summary, power and the energy industry are slow moving and a standard would help in the implementation of new technology in the market. It is required that involvement from several different angles, from both power and heat producers, network owners, voice network owners, industry and so on. A well-suited forum to pursue this standardization project is in the "Committee for Efficient Energy Use, SIS / TK 558".
