Purpose and goal

Sport Open is a collaboration project between Skåne Sports Federation and Malmö University with the aim to develop sustainable methods for local sports clubs to promote integration and meet newly arrived refugees. Thus, the overarching goal is to reduce exclusion in society through voluntary organized sport. At the individual level, the goal is to promote participation and active recreation for newly arrived refugees. For clubs, efforts to promote integration can lead to broadened activities and recruitment.

Expected results and effects

The digital platform that is currently being developed has strong potential to help sports clubs to develop sustainable methods to integrate and meet newly arrived refugees. Further, our cooperation with the Swedish sports movement creates good opportunities to distribute our method on a national level.

Planned approach and implementation

Our method for creating sustainable integration projects has been developed through analysis of sports clubs own experience of integration activities during 2015-2016. The collection of information was carried out in cooperation with educational programs and students at Malmö University. Analysis and the development of our method were conducted under the guidance of researchers in Sports Science and International Migration and Ethnic Relations.
