Purpose and goal

Equal access to housing and important social functions is a crucial challenge at both regional and local levels. The project aim was to strengthen social cohesion, reducing housing segregation in the Gothenburg region and increasing access to the regional housing market. The Gothenburg region carried out the project together with RISE and the municipalities Kungälv, Lerum, Lilla Edet, Partille and Stenungsund.

Expected results and effects

The Gothenburg region has developed a toolbox for socially sustainable planning. The purpose of the toolbox is to provide methods that can inspire and be useful to municipalities throughout the region as well as in other parts of Sweden. A cross-sectoral and co-creative approach with collaboration between planning and social administrations is an important prerequisite for being able to work successfully with the methods in the toolbox.

Planned approach and implementation

The project formed two-level innovation labs. At the local level, five municipalities have developed, tested and evaluated six methods. The work has been carried out by cross-sectoral working groups from various administrations in collaboration with developers and the civil society. In the regional lab, project-joint workshops were conducted on different themes. The aim has been to obtain an inter-municipal knowledge-building and continuous support for the five participating municipalities.
