Snowfighter

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to build an efficient snowmelting station, and to test and evaluate this station under real conditions. The project had three sub-targets: 1) Build a melting station, and file patent, 2) Install the station, 1st of February the latest, 3) Test the snowmelter to find points for improvements. The targets 1) and 3) was successfully reached. Target 2) was not reached due to difficulties to get access to a suitable place for the station from Stockholms stad. This was not solved until April, and this led to a limited time for test and evaluation.

Expected results and effects

The tests that anyway were performed showed that the snowmelting station does its job as expected. However, analysis of the meltwater could not be made. Minor necessary improvements in the design were noted, and these have now been taken care of for the next version of the station.

Planned approach and implementation

The project´s design and implementation was largely successful. However, we could not forsee that it would take so much time to get access to a suitable place for installation. Prior to starting the project we had discussions with Stockholms stad and Fortum Värme for almost a year regarding different sites, and was also granted a couple of sites which then showed to be already occupied or unfit for some reason.
