Important results from the project
Companies gained insight into the importance of understanding their value chain, role, due diligence data, CO₂ footprint and tracking over time. This is a critical input in both design phase and sourcing decisions. The principle of proximity may again become relevant. Many parameters are independent of product type, while others are unique. Collaboration, automation, interoperability, and cybersecurity are essential to digitalize data flows. SmartPass has laid the foundation how to build a DPP.
Expected long term effects
Prio to creating the digital system for product passports, companies need to get control of their value chains and identify which data parameters are required. When in place, along with due diligence data, they will have the control needed to manage their business and make informed decisions to maintain or enhance their competitiveness. Companies must understand that the DPP is not just a requirement, but a digital tool for creating transparency at every stage and achieving full traceability.
Approach and implementation
The setup and work packages proceeded as planned. Workshops identified needs, tailored data parameters per product category, and classified them. Representative use cases were developed. A market analysis of data format standards was conducted, prior to the demonstrator development, followed by the creation of architecture and a guideline for a digital system. A workshop assessed partners’ digital maturity. Timeline and collaboration were well maintained. The thesis progressed successfully.
