Important results from the project

The project encompassed preliminary research on the development of low-power electro-optical modulators for MID-IR and highly efficient switchable IR emitters. In collaboration with research teams from Nanyang Technological University and Tel Aviv University, a strategic framework was established for the continued joint development of these modulators and emitters for mobile gas analyzers. This framework includes the fabrication of prototype samples and the development of associated technology.

Expected long term effects

This project has provided insights into the development of infrared modulators operating at kilohertz and megahertz frequencies with ultra-low power consumption, as well as switchable, narrowband, low-power infrared radiation sources at wavelengths relevant for gas concentration measurements. In the subsequent project, prototypes are expected to be developed and technologies for mass production to be established. The corresponding know-how will be protected through patenting.

Approach and implementation

The goal of the project was to identify partners capable of contributing to the development of an ultra-low-power electro-optical modulator for infrared radiation and/or an active low-power infrared source to enhance the sensitivity and accuracy of non-dispersive infrared gas analyzers. As planned, suitable partners were identified among research teams at Nanyang Technological University and Tel Aviv University. The project was completed in accordance with the preliminary plan.
