Purpose and goal

The long-term goal of the project has been to influence the city of Stockholm as well as the ICT, construction and real estate industries to choose solutions that contribute to a lasting multi-layered ICT infrastructure offering sustainability from climate, environment, economic, and social perspectives. The project has had a lasting impact in several different ways. In part by contributing to improving the city planning processes of the city of Stockholm, and in part be engaging and integrating many of the actors in varying business as well as technical solutions.

Results and expected effects

The Smart ICT project has delivered results in relation to a subset of the total ICT infrastructure of a city. The focus has been on open home networks, the future communication operator, and cloud-based support for services in homes and residential buildings. The course of direction has been set by the interests and businesses of the project partners, but also based on an estimate of which efforts hold the greatest potential to contribute to a positive effect of the formation of a future multi-layered ICT infrastructure.

Approach and implementation

The project has worked in different groups and activities simultaneously. Three main technical and business focus areas has been service enablement, the future communication operator, and open home networks. Cutting across these activities, the project has pursued activities in understanding end-user perspectives, integration and city planning, and development of test and demonstration facilities. In addition, the project has worked extensively with communication through a large number of meetings, presentations, and debates with external partners.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
