Smart Combined Mobility: Digital transit tickets in MaaS-services for residents

Reference number
Coordinator Smart Resenär i Sverige AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 500 000
Project duration September 2018 - December 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project´s aim was to provide answers on how Västtrafik´s tickets can be made digitally available to more customers and how new types of third-party collaborations can be designed to stimulate the development and introduction of MaaS services that contribute to more sustainable travel patterns.

Expected results and effects

The project has confirmed that technical integration with Västtrafik according to BoB works and results in machine validatable tickets in a 3rd party app. Further findings include: - Test environment, documentation and internal support systems are needed at RKM to facilitate integrations - In order for MaaS services to be attractive to end users, they must offer the corresponding product range and prices that apply in RKM´s own app - A long-term viable business model for a third party reseller requires commission levels that at least cover direct sales transaction costs

Planned approach and implementation

The project has successfully integrated and in real operation tested 3rd party sales of digital public transport tickets as part of the MaaS service EC2B for residents in Riksbyggen brf Viva. A technical solution for 3rd party search, ordering, payment and delivery of digital public transport tickets according to the BoB standard has been implemented and a business model for the relationship between RKM and the 3rd party has been developed. The MaaS pilot has been evaluated using the KOMPIS framework.
