Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration December 2012 - December 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to test the strength of the idea of a daily, digital, mobile and interactive communication platform for local communities. Through the feasibility study functional technology and a sustainable business model has been developed. The study focuses on a new district, Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm, but the project is through its flexibility useful in virtually all local communities. It can be implemented as a stand-alone project or part of a business as a supplement to newspapers and traditional news sites.

Results and expected effects

The study shows that this new form of communication for a local society has a lot of potential as it in one mobile site collects and makes available local information, which today is scattered in many hands, offers new opportunities for associations, organizations and commercial enterprises to more quickly and cost-effectively reach out to members and consumers. The concept will be made available on commercial terms for all media companies that want to develop their activities and strengthen their positions as local communications companies.

Approach and implementation

The feasibility study has been carried out in collaboration between Sjöstadsföreningen and Stampen Media Partner. Information sources and information pathways have been identified. The concept has been developed and discussed in focus groups with residents and shopkeepers to test content and business model. On the basis of these discussions a prototype has been designed and presented to local stakeholders and companies that might want to engage in pilot projects and further development of the concept.
