Project duration | October 2013 - November 2014 |
Status | Completed |
Purpose and goal
The aim of the project has been to determine the benefits of using epitaxial silicon carbide (SiC) films for the manufacture of particle detectors and detectors for photons in the UV region, and identify applications areas where the SiC detectors can be used. During the study, the properties and current status of SiC detectors have been mapped and potential applications identified. These have been documented in a report.
Results and expected effects
The result of this study has been a report identifying and documenting the characteristics and current status of the SiC detectors. The report will be used as a basis for encouraging further effort in the field
Approach and implementation
The project has been led by Acreo, and the project team has consisted of representatives from universities and industry. All project partners have contributed to the study in their own area of technical expertise. Regular meetings of the project team has allowed discussion over the boundaries of the different project areas, and allowed the different areas of the study to be brought together into a coherent whole.
