Project duration May 2015 - February 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

SHC-Solution (Smart House Concept - Solution) aims at creating conditions and establishing partnerships for the commercialization of an innovative and sustainable building systems. By combining cross-laminated timber (CLT) with Koljern © technology, a framework of steel purlins joined aroungd cellular glass insulation, robust WoodXGlas solutions for both new constructions and renovation projects are created.

Results and expected effects

The knowledge and insight that this project has resulted in have highlighted the strengths of WoodXGlass and identified opportunities to create robust solutions. The increased knowledge is a very good base for a continuation project, a demonstration, where the system can be tested and compared with BIM design model and it is evaluated in the lab environment. An important conclusion of the present report is a need to continue the building physical tests in the field.

Approach and implementation

This final report includes an overall result from building physical examination, environmental analysis and commercial potential of WoodXGlass. The results and methods developed in the project include qualitative and quantitative (numerical) analyses of possible WoodXGlass solutions. A variety of models that have been developed and tested within this project can be used in future investigations. Due to project limitations, supplementary literature studies and laboratory analyses were performed separately for CLT and Koljern elements rather than for a WoodXGlass system.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
