Purpose and goal

Seven partners have through Sharing Towns supported the development of the sharing economy and circular economy in Karlstad and, by extension, other smaller towns. The purpose has been to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make it easier to live sustainably. 15 new sharing services have started during the project period and the engagement for sharing has increased. Several networks around sharing have been developed, and a handbook has been produced. The project evaluation also shows that the project has contributed to more jobs, sustainable growth, and social sustainability.

Expected results and effects

The project´s set goals around service development, communication and network and support, all objectives have been met. The pandemic challenged the project to quickly reorganize all planned activities. It developed the project´s communication methods and gave us the opportunity to reach far more people through new channels The project results show that it is possible to run a sharing economy initiative successfully in smaller municipalities and can function better than in big cities. The evaluation shows that the project has contributed to more results in addition to the set goals.

Planned approach and implementation

The project´s overall ambition was to create better conditions for sharing and become a model for similar municipalities, meaning that several of the project´s working methods or services can easily be implemented in other municipalities. The intention was to strengthen the supply of and demand for sharing services as well as to strengthen overall conditions such as networks and knowledge. Citizen involvement and digitalisation have guided the implementation of the work, and digitized communication in particular has also been a crucial tool during the Corona pandemic.
