Important results from the project

The project aimed to use sensor-based robotics to develop an automated solution for handling the measurement and sorting of casings in the food industry, a rather dirty process that has so far been done manually mainly in low-wage countries.

Expected long term effects

The main goal of the project was the development of a prototype for the sorting machine, where Lund University focused on image processing and picking robot control while Proxima Centauri developed the mechanical solution for the sorting process. The prototype solution has been fully developed but needs further parameter adjustment to achieve the reliability expected by the industry.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided into work packages focusing on vision-based solution for picking the casings, mechanical interface towards further stages of measurement and sorting, design of intuitive user interface and finally testing the integrated solution in practice. Due to covid pandemic there were some delays in the progress but finally all project goals have been achieved.
