Important results from the project

The objective was to increase the knowledge about robust injection moulding of automotive components with desired surface properties. A large number of analyses regarding esthetic and haptic properties have therefore been carried out and the effects of different material and processing parameters have been analysed. Furthermore, a demo-mould has been designed, manufactured and tested. The aim regarding shorter lead times and less rejection is too early to evaluate, but the aim regarding publication of 4 journal/conference papers is fulfilled.

Expected long term effects

The project has genereated new knowledge regarding robust injection moulding of components with desired surface properties. The project has also generated models and manuals for prediction and specification of plastic components esthetic and haptic properties. However, many questions remains and the project members will therefore continue the work that has been initiated within this project.

Approach and implementation

The project work has been carried out in a traditional way with work packages and working groups. However, since the development and manufacture of the demo-mould have taken a lot of time and resources, the work in the other work packages has sometimes not been so intensive. But the interest for the project has all the time been very high with good participation of the project members on all project meetings and working group meetings.
