Purpose and goal

The aim of the roadshow was to spread knowledge about graphene and its application possibilities to new actors in Sweden. The goal was five actors per workshop and eight new sponsor partners. The report aims to support stakeholders in the Swedish graphene industry by providing an overview of the patenting activity in the area. The ambition is that the report will be used for identifying opportunity areas and serve as support in relation to future research and commercialization initiatives.

Results and expected effects

For SIO Graphene it was an opportunity to reach a wider audience than before. We can not today measure how many new contacts that will be sponsor partners, or participating in our upcoming activities, but in general we are satisfied with the quality of discussions and engagement. 6047 patents in seven selected areas were analyzed. Three of the more interesting findings was that 55% of patents are owned by research actors, Swedish actors owns 1% of the patents, and although China dominates with 45% patent ownership, 96% of these patents are just disignated China.

Approach and implementation

We presented graphene and its applications, as well as the SIO program in 7 cities. The participants got a chance to network with other people in the same region. The patent landscape analysis focuses on investigating the characteristics, trends and actor positions in relation to seven underlying technology sub-areas related to graphene and/or application areas using graphene. Using patent data patent filing intensity and distribution in the graphene areas, the patent filing trends in the areas, the top patent holders and type of actors driving patenting were explored.
