Purpose and goal

Re:Think Youth Lab aims to empower Luleå to navigate the green transition by including young people in future design processes. In the industrial development in Norrbotten, it is crucial that not only economic factors are taken into account, but also social sustainability, inclusion and cultural values. The goal of the project is to develop methods to involve young people in speculative visions of the future in order to create a fairer and more sustainable transition for all social groups.

Expected effects and result

Expected effects are an increased understanding of different perspectives and situations in the green transition. It leads to better decisions, strengthened resilience and more holistic planning, more inclusive and sustainable solutions and reduces the risk of incorrect investments and increases the possibility of creating places that promote community and sustainability. A methodology and learning process for working with young people and inclusion will be developed which can be disseminated.

Planned approach and implementation

The project´s first two phases will focus on collaboration between the project parties to learn from each other and develop a holistic method that explores the transition through speculative design. The last two phases are about involving young people and civil servants from the municipality to test and iterate the method. The final opening will serve as a discussion platform to highlight the importance of social sustainability and inclusion in the green transition.
