Purpose and goal

The purpose and objective of the project was to develop and refine the agenda draft version March 2013. By inviting a larger scope of actors in academia, industry, the public sector and related fields, to engage with input and in creating the agenda.The aim included a serious anchoring process in the sector and engagement in developing a SIO proposal for the Tourism and hospitality industry.

Results and expected effects

The agenda is developed in collaboration with a broad group of representatives from business, academia and relevant authorities suggests a network and platform for research and innovation. Six priority areas of knowledge are defined (Market Knowledge, Service Innovation, Digitization, Sustainable Tourism, Infrastructure, Policy) as well as five key initiatives (Research, Competence, Accesibility, Destination/ Theme, Cooperation) are defined. Based on the vision, goals, knowledge areas and key initiatives a Roadmap 2014 - 2030 for innovation has been developed.

Approach and implementation

The Working Committee has gathered BFUF, Visita, HRF and HUI Research. Steering and peer review has been due to BFUF board, Svensk Turism AB, Visit Sweden and Tillväxtverket. A great group of skills have been involved through thematic workshops, meetings and written contributions. Researchers at nine universities have involved giving their views on research challenges and how research, industry and authorities can cooperative for innovation in the tourism and hospitality sector. Analysis and results are anchored through the reference groups and a final reconciliation meeting.
