Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project has been to investigate the conditions for using distance education to increase equality and secure the quality of education for students across Sweden. This has been done in cooperation with municipalities and researchers. Both quantitative and qualitative data has been collected and results show a clear shift in the center of interest from a focus on technology to pedagogical discussions. The results also show that a strong and strategic school leadership is necessary for distance education to become a key part of the digitalization of schools.

Expected results and effects

In addition to the learning and experiences of participating teachers and schools, the project has collected unique data on the process when distance education is initiated in schools. Furthermore, the project has resulted in a long list of policy-related issues to discuss at national, local and school levels. From a long-term perspective, the basis for further policy discussions may well be the most valuable contribution of the project.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consisted of municipalities who conducted case studies with distance education, evaluation research and four open workshops. The evaluation research is based on both quantitative and qualitative data. Case studies, workshops and evaluation research were conducted according to plans. The results show an increased maturity and gradually reduced focus on technology and increased focus on educational issues. The final written report provides a basis for continued policy discussions at all levels.
