Project duration November 2012 - July 2013
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The main purpose of this project has been to identify the need for new research concerning the interaction between product design and global production and logistics. A literature review and discussions with firms with large production networks has revealed that there is a need and an interest for new research. This is discussed in the separate final report.

Expected long term effects

The project has resulted in a literature review that is included in the final report. A scientific article is in progress. Discussion with companies has verified the interest in and need for research, and has led to internal discussion on this topic. One result that verifies this interest is that a research proposal has been submitted to Vinnova for the program ´Innovative product development: research on development of industrial goods and services´, in cooperation with three large corporations: Husqvarna, PartnerTech och Volvo Construction Equipment.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out according to the planned approach in principle. The pre-study contained four parts: (i) literature review to establish the research frontier, (ii) company studies to establish how companies are dealing with product designs, global production and logistics, and the interaction between, (iii) comparisons between theory and practice to identify new avenues for research, and (iv) the writing of articles for journal submission (in Swedish and English) and presentations for conferences (this is still work-in-progress).

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
