Important results from the project
Ports face the challenge of both conducting their operations in the most sustainable way possible through the use of fossil-free energy, providing visitors with fossil-free energy carriers, and balancing their use and distribution of sustainable energy with the needs of the environment. In the present project, trends have been taken into account for the development within different modes of transport, interviews have been carried out with Swedish ports and a survey has been carried out aimed at a majority of Sweden´s ports.
Expected long term effects
In the project, quantitative and qualitative analyzes have been carried out for trends regarding the demand, supply and distribution of sustainable energy for port operations and as a transport node. The project identifies that ports need to establish a capability as an energy node where a maturity model is proposed as a guide to develop this capability. The project identifies that the energy landscape is very uncertain, why the project proposes a demonstration project to simulate different energy demand scenarios where seven of Sweden´s ports propose to participate as parties.
Approach and implementation
Based on conducted trend analysis, interviews and a survey, the project has developed a normative model as guidance for the port in developing its ability as an energy node. The work is part of the development of the sustainable port concept. The project has resulted in an overview of energy efforts planned for within different modes of transport, proposes a maturity model and a demonstration project for simulating different future energy needs related to the port. The report with its various results has also been sent for referral to all of Sweden´s ports.
